Championship play-off finalists Derby County would love to keep Liverpool winger Harry Wilson and Premier League football could make this possible.

Derby County are just one game away from ending their 11-year spell outside the Premier League.

The Rams will take on Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final at Wembley next Monday in what will be their biggest game in the last decade. The pressure is on, then, for Frank Lampard’s side after they stunned Leeds United over two legs.

And, deep down, Derby will know that their only hope of keeping star man Harry Wilson at Pride Park is to be promoted at the first attempt under Frank Lampard.

The Liverpool winger has spent the entire 2018/19 season on loan in the East Midlands, scoring a remarkable 18 goals in all competitions including that Ronaldo-esque free-kick in the EFL Cup win away at Manchester United.

In truth, Wilson has outgrown the Championship and needs to prove himself in the Premier League at the earliest opportunity. So if Derby lose to Villa at Wembley, he will not be back for a second spell.

Promotion, however, could pave the way for Derby to consider a permanent, perhaps club-record bid for a player who has been the driving force of their play-off bid.

According to the Mail, Liverpool could be tempted to sell Wilson for £20 million – a fee that Derby could pay with Premier League riches in their pockets.
