Scottish Premiership champions Celtic sold £1.5m striker Ciftci in the summer transfer window and he’s now at Genclerbirligi in Turkey.
It is seven months now since Celtic made the decision to finally put Nadir Ciftci out of his misery.
After playing just 26 games in three years and embarking upon a series of joyless and largely goalless loan spells, Ciftci was released by the Scottish Premiership champions. The Hoops failed to recoup a single penny from a player they invested £1.5 million in after his impressive spell at Dundee United (Sky Sports).
Though the former Portsmouth and Plymouth striker has showed signs of a resurgence since leaving Celtic, getting his career back on track since returning home to Turkey.
The 27-year-old signed a 12-month deal with Genclerbirligi Ankara and he has been in terrific goalscoring form despite often lining up on the left wing.
Ciftci has scored nine goals in 21 games for his new club, meaning that a contract extension beyond the end of the season would not come as a major surprise. Genclerbirligi are third in the second tier of Turkish football and, thanks to Ciftci, have promotion in their sights.
Few could question Celtic’s decision to release the ill-fitting striker with a year left on his contract, however, regardless of his one-in two record in Turkey.
