Championship hopefuls Leeds United reportedly want to bring Justin Lonwijk to Elland Road from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven.
Leeds United want to sign one of the most talented youngsters in Dutch football.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, 19-year-old PSV Eindhoven starlet Justin Lonwijk is a target for Marcelo Bielsa’s side with his contract at the Eredivisie champions due to expire in the summer.
But, before you go scrolling through YouTube and firing up Wikipedia, let us tell you exactly who he is.
1) A teenager born in Tilburg, Lonwijk is a skilful and creative attacking midfielder who’s versatility is a real asset. He is equally comfortable playing as a number ten or a ‘second striker’.
2) Right-footed Lonwijk has an impressive goal-scoring record at youth level for PSV. He netted 13 times in all competitions last season and has three in nine games in the Dutch second division across 2018/19. That is an average of one in three. In total, he has hit the net 20 times in 50 games for PSV’s under-19 side.
3) He was born in Holland but has Surinamese origins like some of the most talented Dutch players of the last 30 years. Clarence Seedorf, Edgar Davids and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink also hail from the South American nation.
4) Perhaps worryingly, Longwijk spent the entire first half of the season out of action with a serious knee injury. But he returned with a bang in January, scoring a wonderful goal in his fourth game back against Dordrecht.
5) Dutch publication ED claims that Lonwijk harbours hopes of playing at the top level. And, even though his contract expires in July, anyone wishing to sign him will have to pay around £350,000 in compensation.
