Championship strugglers Hull City made a huge bid for Yannis Salibur 12 months ago; now West Bromwich Albion could bring him from Ligue 1 for half the price.

A year ago, West Bromwich Albion would have had to pay a substantial fee to bring Yannis Salibur to The Hawthorns.

According to the BBC, Hull City had agreed a £9 million fee to sign the Guingamp attacker, potentially as a replacement for the West Ham bound Robert Snodgrass.

Salibur remained at Guingamp however and, these days, he could be available for a lot less. According to L’Equipe, the 26-year-old may now be on the market for as little as £5.3 million.

It is understood that a West Brom side lacking any real firepower and thrust going forward are very interested in signing Salibur this month, while Fiorentina and Sevilla are also keen. A forceful attacker who would add a much needed goal threat from the centre of the park, it is obvious why Alan Pardew is reportedly keen.

But should reports that Salibur’s price-tag has dropped quite considerably act as a warning to West Brom?

In 12 Ligue 1 starts this season, he has just two goals and no assists, which is a far cry from the impressive tally of eight and four from 2016/17. In fact, the drop in Salibur’s valuation could be a result of his dip in standards.

This alone is a warning to suggest that a West Brom side under pressure from Financial Fair Play may be better off spending their money elsewhere.
