Leeds United wanted Jordan Hugill from Championship rivals Preston North End in the summer and now the Lilywhites have two ready-made replacements.
The transfer window is only four days old but Preston North End have already announced the signing of two red-hot strikers.
A deal to bring in Motherwell’s Louis Moult, the top scorer in Scottish football this season, was announced midway through December. The 25-year-old former Stoke City youngster joined in a cut-price deal of just £450,000 with his contract due to expire in the summer, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
And Moult has been joined at Deepdale by Billy Bodin. The former Bristol Rovers talisman, who netted 11 times in 24 League One games in 2017/18, joined on a two-and-a-half year deal.
So if Leeds United are still interested in doing a deal for Jordan Hugill, now is probably the perfect time to enquire about his availability.
The Birmingham Mail stated that Leeds were interested in the summer after Hugill netted 12 times in the Championship last season. And a strong and aggressive line-leader, one with a proven track-record in the second tier, appears to be the missing link in a Leeds side seemingly set up to fight for promotion.
After a slow start to this season, Hugill has hit form of late to prove that his breakthrough 2016/17 was not just a one off. He has eight goals already and is comfortably on track to beat his tally from the previous campaign.
And with Preston bringing in not one but two centre-forwards, will they now be more receptive to offers for their star man; a player who handed in a transfer request in the summer to unsuccessfully force a move away?
Who knows? But Leeds should attempt to find out.
