Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United will be hoping to get back on track during Tuesday’s Championship clash away at Preston North End.

Alex Neil the manager of Preston North End looks on during a pre-season friendly match between Preston North End and Newcastle United at Deepdale on July 22, 2017 in Preston, England.

Alex Neil claims Leeds United have been the Championship’s standout side this season – as his Preston North End team prepare to go head-to-head with the promotion hopefuls on Tuesday night – while speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Leeds have emerged as one of three clubs in pursuit of two automatic promotion positions but they slipped down to third after another disappointing away result, going down 1-0 to a Birmingham City side managed by former Whites boss Garry Monk.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team face another tricky test when they travel to Preston in midweek too. The Lilywhites have defied expectations once again this season, although they are now five points adrift of the play-offs.

Before this make-or-break clash at Deepdale, Preston boss Neil has taken the time to rave about an exciting and free-flowing Leeds side after Saturday’s defeat against a more pragmatic Sheffield United.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa walks to the dug out during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Swansea City at Elland Road on February 13, 2019 in Leeds, England.

“Leeds are going to be a different proposition than Sheffield United were due to the way they play,” said the former Norwich City boss.

“I’d say that Leeds have been the most impressive team over the course of the season even though they are sitting in third.

“I like the way they play, they are aggressive and have got aggressive runners. I think they have been good to watch this season.”

Leeds have now lost four away games in the Championship since the turn of the year, suffering defeats to Nottingham Forest, QPR, Stoke City and Birmingham. It is these results that could cost them a place in the top two.
