It’s not going right for either Pedro Caixinha and Carlos Pena since they left Scottish Premiership giants Rangers and went to Mexico.
Since taking charge of Cruz Azul, the Liga MX side have won just one of six games. A month ago, #FueraCaixinha (Caixinha Out) was trending on Twitter and, on Sunday, Rangers loanee Carlos Pena was booed off by the Cruz Azul fans after a home defeat to Necaxa which leaves them just three points off the bottom of the table.
And Cruz Azul’s president has now intervened, giving Caixinha the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’.
“I accept one win in the league wasn’t the start Pedro and the club wanted,” Guillermo Alvarez Cuevas said in quotes reported by the Daily Record.
“But I honestly think some of the criticism about him is unfair. This is very much a project that is long term and we have only just started it.”
Caixinha lasted just eight months in charge of Ibrox and clearly wants to be given time to prove his worth in Mexico.
