Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly expressed an interest in bringing Trabzonspor’s Super Lig wonder kid Abdulkadir Omur to the Premier League this summer.
It seems that every nation on the planet has their own ‘Mini Messi’ and Turkey are no different. Ever since breaking into the Trabzonspor side at the start of last season, Abdulkadir Omur (above, left) has been compared to the Barcelona number ten for his skilful dribbling and cultured left-foot.
The 19-year-old was a revelation in his first Super Lig campaign, contributing to nine goals in just 20 starts. And it seems Trabzonspor will have a tough task hanging on to their young talisman beyond this summer.
According to Turkish Football, Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in signing teenager Omur having been watching him for a number of months. It was first reported back in April that Spurs were interested in a player Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has called an ‘incredible talent’.
And Trabzonspor’s president, Ahmet Agaoglu, has now revealed how much the Super Lig outfit would demand before cashing in on their prized asset.
“It is not just my decision, the board will have to come to a decision,” Agaoglusaid in quotes reported by Turkish Football.
“The board are either going reject the £10.6m (offered by Portuguese outfit Benfica) offer or propose a counteroffer, £14.2m is the figure we are looking for. Of course, they are going to have to convince me as well.
“I have made it clear that I want to include a 20 percent future sale clause, something Benfica do not seem keen on.”
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is renowned for his ability to spot a bargain a mile off and £14.2 million could prove to be a worth every penny for a player of Omur’s potential. But, with Benfica making the first move, Tottenham have some catching up to do.
