Premier League-linked midfielder Marcelo Brozovic was left out of Inter Milan’s squad to face Juventus on Sunday with speculation intensifying about a potential move to the Serie A champions.

The Croatian international was omitted from one of the most historic fixtures in Italian domestic football, the so-called Derby d’Italia, due to “unprofessional behaviour”, according to Football Italia.

The player’s agent subsequently denied any wrongdoing and the 23-year-old himself took to his official Instagram account to protest his innocence, saying he was “excluded for no reason.”

Though no official explanation has been given by the club for Brozovic’s omission, these developments appear to have hastened the departure of arguably Inter’s prized asset, who was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea in the summer, according to the London Evening Standard.

However, Juventus now appear to have jumped to the front of a lengthy queue for the talented midfielder’s signature, with Max Allegri’s side keen to reignite a deal they failed to conclude during the summer transfer window.

According to Football Italia, the Bianconeri were willing to part with experienced right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner (below) as part of a deal that brought Brozovic to Turin, and this controversy may push Inter to rethink negotiations.

Brozovic’s Juventus move would come as a huge disappointment to both Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte as they aim to construct a squad strong enough to challenge for the Premier League title.

A versatile midfielder with excellent distribution and an impressive long-range strike, Brozovic is one of the few truly ‘box-to-box’ footballers in the modern game.
