Lewis Grabban has scored 20 Championship goals for Sunderland and Aston Villa this season; no wonder Nottingham Forest fans are impressed.

With just one Championship fixture remaining, Lewis Grabban is level with Derby County’s Matej Vydra in the chase for the league’s Golden Boot.
It has been a stellar campaign for the 30-year-old striker. He netted 12 times in 18 starts for a dismal Sunderland side in the first half of the season and, after leaving and joining Aston Villa on loan in January, Grabban has continued that prolific run with a further eight goals in 12 appearances.

In fact, it has been his form in the final third that has carried Aston Villa into the end-of-season play-offs and could give Steve Bruce’s side the edge in the battle for Premier League football.
So it is tempting to wonder where Nottingham Forest would be if they had a goal-scorer as reliable as Grabban leading their line. Forest have not threatened the top six since the turn of the year and are currently 17th, 19 points off the play-offs.

And the lack of a Grabban-type talisman has perhaps been the biggest issue. Forest have scored just 49 times in 45 games, 23 less than Grabban’s Aston Villa. Their most prolific player, the midfielder Kieran Dowell, has only nine to his name and will return to Everton once his loan expires this summer.
So no wonder Forest fans are encouraging an attempt to lure Grabban from his parent club Bournemouth this summer.
