In the last three months, the Middlesbrough-born forward has played just 22 minutes of Premier League football spread out across three substitute appearances. Unsurprisingly, Hugill has failed to score in that time.
But with West Ham looking certain to survive, they appear to have no use for a striker who is simply not up to Premier League standard.
The whole situation is a bit of a mess and does nothing to disprove the claims from many a disillusioned supporter that Hugill was merely a knee-jerk panic buy designed to appease fans demanding new signings.
Hugill has found himself at the centre of a very unfortunate situation through no fault of his own and the fans feel for him, too.
