Is Hadi Sacko’s time as a Leeds United player all but over?
The former Sporting Lisbon winger spent last season on loan at Elland Road but, despite frustrating fans with a galling lack of end product, he managed to secure a permanent deal.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claimed that Leeds paid £1.5 million to sign Sacko on a three-year deal.
But since then, the 24-year-old has been reduced to cameo appearances, with his importance in West Yorkshire diminishing rapidly. The Championship season is now over and Sacko started just one of 46 games, making another 13 appearances from the substitutes’ bench.
And, in another potential blow to his chances of a bright future at Leeds, Sacko has been omitted from the club’s 22-man squad for the controversial summer trip to Myanmar.
Paul Heckingbottom’s selection was made up of a number of academy players, but the fact that Sacko has been left out alongside loanees Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Matthew Pennington, including the out-of-favour Felix Weidwald and Eunan O’Kane, means it would be no surprise if the jet-heeled winger was let go this summer.
And with Leeds limping in the end to a 13th-placed finish in the Championship, it seems that Sacko is one of a number of players the fans would be happy to see leave.
