Lyon’s Ligue 1 midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has been linked with Premier League duo Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino hardly hid the fact that he was left frustrated with the lack of transfer activity at Tottenham Hotspur during the summer.

While top four rivals Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool enhanced their squads in the off-season, Spurs became the first team in the history of the transfer window to fail to spend a single penny with the North London giants funnelling money into their new stadium.

So the prospect of Tanguy Ndombele, the ideal Mousa Dembele replacement, slipping though Spurs’ fingers and joining Everton instead simply doesn’t bare thinking about for Pochettino.

L’Equipe reported in July that Tottenham had expressed an interest in the all-action Lyon midfielder and were ready to pay £35 million. And though Ndombele remained at the Stade OL, Telefoot claim that Pochettino’s high-flyers are still very keen on the France international heading into the January transfer window.

But now Everton have joined the race. That is according to the Liverpool Echo, who state that chief scout Martyn Glover has watched the £40 million-rated powerhouse in action with both Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands big fans of one of Europe’s top midfield talents.

Ndombele is a fantastically gifted all-round midfielder capable of winning possession back in his own half and creating chances in attack too, having tallied four Ligue 1 assists already this season.

And after months of scouting, surely Tottenham cannot allow Everton to sneak in and nab Ndombele from under their nose. If Spurs want to keep Pochettino happy, and show their ambition at a crucial stage in the club’s development, they simply cannot lose out.
