Celtic loaned Nadir Ciftci to Plymouth Argyle this summer – but he’s even finding goals difficult to come by in League One.
Plymouth Argyle never really looked like scoring in their 1-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday. Barring a stroke of genius from Graham Carey, whose sublime stoppage time free-kick clipped the crossbar, Derek Adams’ visitors failed to pose a threat going forward and home goalkeeper Jamie Jones had only one shot to save all night.
Therefore, the fact that Celtic loanee Nadir Ciftci did not even get off the bench raises does not speak well of the striker’s impact since arriving at Plymouth in the summer. It was the first time Cifcti has not started since August but, although The Green Army failed to threaten, there is little reason to believe the 25-year-old would have made the difference.
The former Dundee United talisman failed to score in six League One appearances and the form that saw him earn a £1.5 million move to Celtic in 2015 (BBC) following 34 goals in two seasons for The Tangerines continues to evade him.
Ciftci, who barely featured once Brendan Rodgers replaced Ronny Deila at Parkhead last summer, also failed to find the net during a barren loan spell at Polish minnows Pogon Szczecin last season.
And it’s fair to say the same could be said of his increasingly underwhelming spell with Plymouth. Adams needed a goal and still did not turn to his marquee summer signing.
