Could Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers make a move for another Jorge Mendes client – Benfica midfielder Pizzi?
Portugal versus Italy certainly had its moments. One of the most high-profile clashes in the opening round of the UEFA Nations League, Fernando Santos’s side edged a game that shimmered rather than sparkled, with Sevilla striker Andre Silva netting the only goal of the game.
And you can imagine that those at Wolverhampton Wanderers were keeping a close eye on proceedings. Ruben Neves started in central midfield for the hosts while Andre Silva, Pepe and Joao Cancelo, three players who were linked with Wolves during the summer, also featured in the XI.
But it was another player on Jorge Mendes’s long list of clients that should have caught Wolves’ eye: Pizzi.
The Benfica play-maker was one of the game’s most impressive performers in his very own Estadio da Luz stadium. The 28-year-old, earning his eleventh cap, was a source of creativity throughout the first half in particular, standing out due to his intelligent passing, vision and quick feet.
At club level, Pizzi has started 2018/19 in fine style, too. He has scored six goals already for Benfica this season, including a hat-trick against Vitoria Guimaraes.
So his form should not go unnoticed by Wolves, who are already home to a number of Mendes’s players. Pizzi would give Nuno Espirito Santo one option he is perhaps lacking – a natural number ten.
