Aston Villa paid £5million to sign Frederic Guilbert from Ligue 1 side Caen in January before loaning him back to France.
Aston Villa fans will be keen to see how Frederic Guilbert gets on between now and the end of the season.
The French right-back signed for the Championship giants late in the January transfer window for a fee of £5 million, according to the Birmingham Mail.
But, rather than make the immediate trip across The Channel, Guilbert was allowed to stay in France until May.
“It was part of the agreement with Caen,” manager Dean Smith told the Birmingham Mail with fans rather baffled by the situation.
“They’re fighting a relegation battle and want to keep their best players.”
But how is Guilbert getting on?
Saturday’s outing is probably one to forget. The 25-year-old returned to Caen’s starting XI after missing last week’s clash with Rennes but it is fair to say he wasn’t at his best as St Etienne came to town.
Guilbert started at left-back role as Caen were obliterated in front of their own fans, losing 5-0 to Les Verts. At least the defender highlighted his versatility.
The result left Caen bottom of the table and nine points adrift of safety.
