Manchester City released Bacary Sagna at the end of the season – meaning Newcastle United could pull of a coup getting him for free.
Bacary Sagna is available on a free
One of Manchester City’s first acts this summer was to show Bacary Sagna the door once his contract had expired. However, that does not mean the Frenchman has nothing left to give at the top level of English football.
At least that appears to be the thinking of Newcastle United with the Daily Star claiming the newly-promited Magpies will offer him a chance to continue his career in the Premier League.

The 34-year-old, who is also on the radar of Crystal Palace, may have to reduce his £85,000-a-week wages before donning the famous black and white but it appears that a deal makes sense for all parties.
After all, Newcastle could do with a dash of top flight experience to boost a somewhat unconvincing backline. And, with Vurnon Anita set to leave this summer, Sagna could offer a reliable alternative to speed-merchant DeAndre Yedlin.

And the 65-time France international could also benefit from playing under a manager who clearly admires his talents after being trusted with only 14 Premier League starts under Pep Guardiola.
French publication Le 10 Sport claimed in November 2013 that Rafael Benitez was keen to bring Sagna to Italy with his Napoli side requiring an upgrade on the ageing Anthony Reveillere.

Sagna’s contract at Arsenal was due to expire at the end of that campaign and his solid defensive nous and excellent crossing led the Spanish manager to beleive he could vastly improve Napoli’s porous backline.
However, the veteran full-back put pen to paper with City instead just a few months later – though it appears now is the time for Benitez to get his man at last.
