Reported Rangers target Eduardo Herrera enjoyed the best season of his career under Pedro Caixinha at Santos Laguna.

There could be quite a mix of accents in the Ibrox dressing room next season. Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha may be keen to ensure that a Scottish spine runs through his club but perhaps embellished with a little Latin charm.

According to the Daily Record, Mexican international striker Eduardo Herrera is the latest South American on Caixinha’s wishlist. And why not? The pair know each other well after all.

Caixinha brought the 28-year-old to former club Santos Laguna in the 2013/14 season, signing him on a season-long loan from Mexican league rivals Pumas UNAM. And it’s fair to say Herrera had the desired impact, plundering 19 goals in 23 games to ensure The Warriors finished second behind America.

‘Complete Striker’

The Daily Record claim that Rangers would need to pay a seven-figure sum to reunite Caixinha with Herrera – but it appears that he would jump at the chance.

After all, the Portuguese hardly hid his regret after Santos Laguna failed to sign Herrera permanently on the back of his prolific season at the club.

“I think it was a mistake by me not to try and sign him,” Caixinha said in quotes reported by the Daily Record.

“He was a player who contributed a lot at the time at Santos. He’s improved every year and is now a complete striker.

“He’s Mexican, he’s very professional and he scores goals. He was a great player for me.”

Three years on, Rangers fans will be praying Caixinha can get the best out of Herrera again. After all, 37-year-old Kenny Miller was the only player to hit double figures last season so the pressure will be on the Mexican to hit the ground running.
