The 20-year-old has impressed on loan at Dunfermline but his Celtic contract runs out at the end of the season.

Celtic-owned winger Paul McMullan admitted that he wanted to continue his loan spell at Scottish Championship club Dunfermline, Capital City Press reports, as he gears up for a crucial six months in his short career.

The 20-year-old, who is yet to make his debut for Celtic, is embarking on his fourth loan spell away from Glasgow this season but, thanks to his impressive form in the second division, has offered a timely reminder of his talents.

McMullan’s performances have helped Dunfermline to fifth in the Scottish Championship table and he is more than aware that the final stretch of the campaign could define his future with his contract at Celtic runs out at the end of the season.

“I’m out of contract at the end of the season and I would like as many options as possible when that time comes,” McMullan told Capital City Press.

“There was a clause in the loan agreement that meant I could have gone back to Celtic this month, but with the recent run in the team and how I was feeling about things it was never really in doubt as far as I concerned.”

At 20, there is plenty of room for improvement in his game and, with Brendan Rodgers attempting to stay at Celtic for the long haul, the club needs to plan ahead and ensure that they have young, homegrown players in place to provide the backbone of future sides.

Therefore, even though he may not reach the standard required of even a Celtic squad player, McMullan’s performances at Dunfermline suggest that he warrants an opportunity to impress at Celtic before committing his future elsewhere.
