Steven Gerrard reportedly wants to bring Steven Davis back to Rangers, and the midfielder made his first Premier League start of the season this week.

While Steven Davis would be welcomed back at Ibrox with open arms from Rangers supporters, it seems that Southampton fans would also be happy to see the experienced midfielder return north of the border.
According to the Express (16 October, back page), Steven Gerrard was lining up a move to re-sign Rangers’ former captain; a man who won three Scottish Premiership titles during a stellar spell in royal blue.
And Davis made his long-awaited first Premier League start of the season on Wednesday night, featuring in the first XI as the Saints made the trip to Wembley to take on Tottenham Hotspur.
But has the 33-year-old shown with his performance why he had fallen so far down the pecking order under Mark Hughes?

If you ask Southampton fans, it seems that Davis’ best years are well behind him, as he struggled to make any impact on the game while spurning a glorious second-half chance as the South Coast strugglers slipped to a 3-1 defeat in North London.
Davis is surely capable of making a major impact in Rangers colours but, if Gerrard gets his man, he should be aware that the veteran is not the all-action midfield enforcer he once was.
