Premier League newcomers Norwich City are set to make Partick Thistle’s Scottish Premiership star their next summer signing.
Partick Thistle’s CEO Gerry Britton has admitted that the Scottish Premiership side have reluctantly agreed to sell exciting winger Aidan Fitzpatrick to Norwich City this summer, while speaking to the club’s official website.
There might have been plenty of hand-wringing about the quality of Scottish football in recent months, particularly after another campaign dominated by Celtic and some horrific results at international level.
But the country are continuing to produce some hugely promising attacking talent with Fitzpatrick, like David Turnbull and Jake Hastie, attracting plenty of attention after making their name during the 2018/19 campaign.
The Daily Record recently claimed that Premier League newcomers Norwich were set to beat Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic to the teenager, who scored seven goals in all competitions last season.
And Partick have now all-but confirmed that Fitzpatrick is Carrow Road bound.
“To be honest, we want to keep Aidan at the Club and had already turned down several bids from Norwich, the only Club to approach us about him,” Britton said.
“However, he and his advisers believe that this latest offer is too good to turn down. Having made it clear there was nothing we could do to change their minds, with great reluctance we agreed to let him speak to them, as we believe he still could have made further progress at Thistle.
“Aidan will now head south for a medical and if that is ok, the deal will be concluded thereafter.”
Britton might be worried about whether this is too much too soon for a player who only made his debut 12 months ago. But, in Daniel Farke, Norwich have a coach who loves nothing more than to give youth a chance.
The former Dortmund reserve coach has turned Max Aarons, Jamal Lewis and Ben Godfrey into three of England’s most coveted youngsters in the last year or so.
