Luke Garbutt has not made a Premier League appearance for Everton since 2015/16 and is out on loan Oxford United.

Luke Garbutt of Everton walks on to the field ahead of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 match between Everton FC and FC Dynamo Kyiv on March 12, 2015 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Everton fans would be forgiven for forgetting that Luke Garbutt is still contracted to the Merseyside club.

The 25-year-old left-back has not made a single appearance for the Toffees since Roberto Martinez was given his marching orders at the end of the 2015/16 season. Garbutt was farmed out on loan to Wigan by Ronald Koeman two years ago and then missed the entire previous campaign.

These days, Garbutt is at Oxford United, who are second from bottom in League One after eight games.

And the former Leeds United youngster is certainly doing everything he can to get his career back on track at the Kassam Stadium.

As reported by the Oxford Mail, manager Karl Robinson has quipped that Garbutt is training like a demon in an attempt to make a positive impression and become a regular in the Oxford starting XI.

Garbutt endured a difficult start to life at the Kassam, being dropped after four games following a 4-1 thrashing away at Portsmouth, where the defender was hauled off in the second half.

But Garbutt has been impressive of late, setting up two goals in a Carabao Cup win against Newport County before grabbing another assist against Coventry. He then helped Oxford pick up their first clean sheet of the season on Saturday in a 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers.
