Premier League bottom side West Bromwich Albion are reportedly considering former Hawthorns favourite Graham Potter as Alan Pardew’s replacement.

There are few managerial stories playing out right now that could rival Graham Potter’s for romanticism.

At the age of 42, Swedish side Ostersunds are the first and only club on Potter’s coaching CV. However, it is thanks to the former West Brom, Stoke and Southampton defender that punters on the streets of England are even vaguely aware of a side formed just 21 years ago.

After all, Ostersunds were in the fourth tier of Swedish football when Potter was handed the reigns in 2011. Fast forward to the present day and they are preparing to go head-to-head with Arsenal in the Europa League round-of-32 second leg.

Potter is the reigning Swedish football Manager of the Year and has inspired one of the modern game’s great underdog stories.

But that does not mean that he is necessarily ready to return to West Brom.

According to The Mail, The Baggies are closely watching their former full-back, who played at The Hawthorns between 1997 and 2000, and have identified him as a potential replacement for the ailing Alan Pardew.

The Sun claimed that Pardew, only appointed in November, has just two games to save his job with West Brom bottom of the table and seven points adrift of safety.

It is understood that Potter, who has Champions League ambitions at Ostersunds, will only leave for England if a Premier League job arises and West Brom is bound to be intriguing due to his close links with the club.

However, it would be a major risk for the Baggies to appoint a manager who has never worked in England, let alone the Premier League. With relegation looking more and more likely, it is probably a risk that West Brom simply cannot afford to take right now.

Potter would have a hugely difficult task keeping West Brom up and the very real prospect of taking the Baggies down would not do much for his status as England’s most exciting up and coming manager.
