Scottish Premiership giants Rangers failed to bring Aaron Tshibola to Ibrox on a loan deal from Championship giants Aston Villa 12 months ago.

Almost exactly a year ago, Aston Villa made it clear that Rangers were wasting their time attempting to bring Aaron Tshibola to Ibrox.

The midfielder had failed to make the impact expected after signing from Reading for £5 million the previous summer but, according to The Express, Villa blocked Rangers’ attempts to hand him a fresh start north of the border.

But one year on, it seems that a move to Scotland is far more likely for one of the worst signings of Tony Xia’s Aston Villa reign.

The Birmingham Mail states that Tshibola is set to leave Villa Park on another temporary deal in January after disappointing short-lived spells at Nottingham Forest and MK Dons. But rather than Rangers, it is Kilmarnock who have emerged as the leading candidates to rescue Tshibola from his Midlands nightmare.

The report, however, states that other clubs in Scotland’s top flight are interested – but there appears to be little reason why Rangers would consider offering the one-time Arsenal youngster a lifeline this time around.

True, Carlos Pena and Ryan Jack have not yet performed at their best on a consistent basis for the Ibrox giants since joining in the summer and fellow new signing Graham Dorrans (below) is set to be out for up to three months following ankle surgery.

But the fact that Tshibola’s MK Dons loan was cut short less than halfway through the season after a series of ineffectual performances does not exactly provide a ringing endorsement of his talents.

Rangers’ recruitment has let them down badly this season already – so why would they go anywhere near a player who has been at three clubs since the start of 2016/17 and failed miserably at each?
