Scottish Premership giants Rangers failed to lure Mark Webber to Ibrox last year before he swapped Huddersfield Town for Norwich City.

Mark Allen appears to be doing a good job as Rangers’ director of football. The former Manchester City academy chief has brought some exciting young talent into Ibrox and, despite some disappointing results of late, the club appears to be in a far better position now than it was during the reign of Pedro Caixinha.
But Allen was not the first name on Rangers’ list to pull the strings behind the scenes. The Mail claimed in March 2017, three months before Allen was appointed, that The Gers approached Stuart Webber, only for their advances to be snubbed by the man who inspired Huddersfield Town’s success.

Webber instead swapped Huddersfield for Norwich City, but it’s fair to say he has had far less success at Carrow Road so far.
Now, the Terriers’ stunning rise to the Premier League was underpinned by a series of intelligent, low cost signings and the appointment of a manager from the lower leagues in German football.
But the same tactic hasn’t worked at Norwich. Manager Daniel Farke, who like David Wagner was in charge of Dortmund’s reserves, has struggled to create a cohesive team and Norwich are currently stuck in 14th, 11 points shy of the play-offs.

And while some supporters are still behind Webber and his vision, others are quickly losing faith. So it begs the question; where would Rangers be right now if they had appointed Webber instead of Allen?
