Leeds United should have taken the chance to loan Oli McBurnie from Swansea City in the summer.

Oli McBurnie looked more than ready for first-team senior football last season. The Swansea City youngster scored 20 goals for the club’s Under-23s to earn the Premier League 2 Player of the Year award.
Having made just a smattering of cameo appearances for The Swans’ first-team, however, a loan move away from the Liberty Stadium appeared to be the logical next step in McBurnie’s young career.
For whatever reason, however, the Scottish striker is still hammering in the goals at reserve level rather than proving himself in the senior game. The Sun claimed that Leeds United wanted to sign McBurnie on loan, but it was Yorkshire rivals Barnsley who came closest. McBurnie’s temporary move to Oakwell was called off after the Football League ruled that the deadline day deal had not been concluded in time.

The 21-year-old, however, is continuing to make his case for another first-team chance in South Wales. The rampant McBurnie scored a stunning hat-trick as Swansea’s Under-23s cruised past Chelsea on Friday night – meaning he has seven in just four appearances this season.
With Leeds managing just one goal in a run of three straight defeats, however, manager Thomas Christiansen could do with a striker of McBurnie’s natural instinct.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s goals have dried up, while Caleb Ekuban still has not recovered from an injury sustained all the way back in August.
A deal to bring the red-hot McBurnie to Leeds, then, should be attempted at the earliest possible opportunity. Premier League 2 defenders might be wishing the deal had gone through a little earlier.
