Reports linking Aston Villa with a big-money bid for the Sheffield Wednesday star Adam Reach has certainly elicited a reaction on Twitter.

The Daily Star (8 January, page 45) claimed on Tuesday that the highly-rated Owls attacker is a target for Dean Smith’s Midland giants despite Wednesday demanding a hefty £10 million for his services.

Now, Reach has certainly caught the eye on a number of occasions this season thanks to his penchant for the odd long-range wonder-goal. The former Middlesbrough man has scored six times in the Championship this season while his stunning volley at Villa Park in 2017 has not been forgotten.

But, at £10 million, is Reach really the right man to take Aston Villa to the next level? While he has some admirers among the Villa fanbase, it seems that others are unconvinced.

Joe Lolley, the electric winger who set up four goals and scored a screamer himself during November’s 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest in November, could be just one more popular addition with Reach yet to impress on a consistent basis in Wednesday colours.

Furthermore, the chances of new Owls boss Steve Bruce agreeing to sell arguably his best player to the club that sacked him in October look decidedly slim.
