Joe Lolley won a crucial penalty as Nottingham Forest snatched a 2-2 draw away at Blackburn Rovers in Saturday’s Championship clash.

It is fair to say Joe Lolley is not the most popular man in Blackburn. It was his tumble inside the penalty area that cost Tony Mowbray’s Rovers a home win against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, after all.

With ten minutes to go at Ewood Park, Lolley went down under a Jack Rodwell challenge. The referee pointed to the spot and Lewis Grabban converted, earning Forest an impressive 2-2 away draw.

But was it a penalty? It seems that plenty of Blackburn fans did not think so, accusing the former Huddersfield Town winger of exaggerating whatever contact there might have been with the right boot of Rodwell.

That said, Lolley was not going to take the diving claims lying down. Responding to a disgruntled Blackburn fan on Twitter, the 26-year-old has insisted that he was, indeed, fouled by former England international Rodwell.

Lolley has been in and out of the Nottingham Forest side this season, starting six of ten Championship games and coming off the bench on four occasions.

But there is no doubt that the former England C player tends to make his mark when he is called on by Aitor Karanka. The hard-working winger’s direct and jinking style causes opposition defenders nightmares after all.

Just ask Rodwell about Lolley’s quick feet.
