Osborn’s impressive displays have provided a rare spark of light in an otherwise horrendous run of form for Forest.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn admits he needs to add more goals to his game if he is to cement his preferred position behind the strikers at the City Ground, the Nottingham Post reports.

The 22-year-old has been deployed in a more attacking role in recent weeks by manager Philippe Montanier, partnering Britt Assombalonga up front against QPR and supporting Apostolos Vellios against Reading.

However, despite ranking as Forest’s most prolific creator with three assists in the Championship this season, Osborn is yet to find the back of the net in 2016/17, a statistic he acknowledges must be righted if he is to warrant a continued stay in a positon he has come to enjoy.

“I think I would be able to effect the game more in the middle,” Osborn, who came through the club’s academy system, told the Nottingham Post. “But even I sometimes look around the team and think, ‘how am I going to fit myself in there?’.

“I just feel that I need to add more goals to my game,”

“I haven’t had many chances this season, but I suppose that’s just getting in the right positions. That’s something I definitely need to work on, and something I will be working on.”

Versatility can often become a hindrance rather than a help, with players moved around to the detriment of their consistency.

However, Osborn insists that he is happy to fulfil whatever role Montanier asks of him as Forest look to bring an end to a dismal run of one win in eleven league games.

Oliver Burke, Patrick Bamford, Jamaal Lascelles (below) and Karl Darlow all rose through the ranks at the City Ground only to depart soon after reaching the first-team, and Osborn’s impressive performances mean he could be heavily tipped to follow in their footsteps if Forest continue to slide towards the lower echelons of the second tier.
