Stoke City reportedly want Huddersfield Town right-back Tommy Smith but Championship rivals Nottingham Forest could do a lot worse.

Stoke City are set to make a £2.5 million bid for Huddersfield Town right-back Tommy Smith, according to the Sun (24 June, page 57) – although they should not be the only Championship club circling.
After Aaron Mooy, Philipp Billing, Steve Mounie and Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen, Smith is the latest Terriers ace to be linked with a move away from the John Smith’s Stadium since the Yorkshire outfit were relegated from the Premier League.
And while Huddersfield would prefer to keep most of their squad together, The Sun claims that Huddersfield coach Jan Siewert is willing to cash in on the long-serving Smith given that he has just 12 months left on his contract.
The Sun adds that Stoke could offer £2.5 million for the 27-year-old, who produced four goals and ten assists to help Huddersfield secure promotion back in the 2016/17 season.
But Stoke are not the only second-tier outfit who could do with a right-back with blistering pace and the ability to put a ball on a sixpence.

With Sam Byram and Saidy Janko both on their way out of Nottingham Forest with their 12-month loan deals coming to an end, the two-time Champions of Europe need some competition for the often erratic Tandayi Darikwa.
And if Huddersfield are willing to accept just £2.5 million, Forest could do worse than to make Stoke’s pursuit of Smith that little bit harder.
