Queens Park Rangers released left-back Bidwell, but could he join Championship rivals Nottingham Forest?
A new left-back appears to be top of Nottingham Forest’s wish list this summer.
Jack Robinson was the club’s first-choice during the 2018/19 season but the former Liverpool and QPR defender is not the most attack-minded or technically gifted of players in an era where the full-back position has become more important than ever.
So an upgrade appears likely.
El Desmarque has linked Forest with Emmen’s swashbuckling Dutchman Caner Cavlan while Expressen claimed on Wednesday that Swansea City’s jet-heeled Sweden international Martin Olsson is also on Martin O’Neill’s radar.
But maybe the answer to a long-standing problem position is staring Nottingham Forest in the face?
According to the Times, the two-time European champions were keen to sign Queens Park Rangers flyer Jake Bidwell in the summer of 2017. And though two years have gone since those reports emerged, the fact that Bidwell is now available for free should not pass Forest by.
At 26, Bidwell has a long career ahead of him and he was one of QPR’s stand out performers during a dismal 2018/19 campaign, producing four assists in 40 Championship starts.
Blessed with plenty of Championship experience and available for free, Forest could do a lot worse.
