Nottingham Forest landing Grabban for half of Vydra’s price-tag is brilliant business

Championship hopefuls Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to sign Lewis Grabban from Premier League Bournemouth for a bargain fee.

Just last summer, Nottingham Forest managed to rake in £15 million via the sale of Britt Assombalonga to Middlesbrough.

He is far from the only Championship striker to command an eight-figure sum in recent transfer windows, however. Jonathan Kodjia cost the same fee when he left Bristol City for Aston Villa while Matej Vydra and Patrick Bamford would cost around £11 million and £16 million respectively should they move on this summer.

So reports in The Sun that Nottingham Forest are close to signing Lewis Grabban from Bournemouth for just £5 million represents another brilliant piece of business from a side who have aced the transfer window so far.

Grabban, after all, was the second most prolific player in the Championship last season. He scored 20 goals on loan for Aston Villa and Sunderland and Forest could be about to land him for half the price of Vydra, who outscored him by just one to nab the Golden Boot.

Furthermore, Grabban could also come cheaper than Jack Marriott, the prolific Peterborough United striker heavily linked with Forest. Yes Marriott scored 33 times in 2017/18 but he is completely unproven at Championship level.

Grabban, meanwhile, led Villa to the play-off final and has also celebrated promotion with Norwich City. He ticks almost every possible box for Nottingham Forest – and his bargain price-tag makes him one of the signings of the summer.
