Nottingham Forest reportedly wanted to keep Lee Tomlin in the Championship but he wanted his Premier League chance with Cardiff City

Even the most ardent Nottingham Forest fan would struggle to criticise Lee Tomlin for refusing to commit his future to the City Ground back in the spring.
As reported by the Nottingham Post, the East Midlands outfit were keen to sign Tomlin on a permanent basis while he was shining on loan from Cardiff City. But the 29-year-old was keen to return to South Wales and seize his chance to be a Premier League player – and you can hardly blame him.
But that dream has now turned sour.
As reported by Wales Online, Tomlin has been left out of Cardiff’s 25 man Premier League squad along with the likes of Anthony Pilkington and Stuart O’Keefe.
As a result, Tomlin has no chance of playing any league football between now and January. Unless, of course, he moves on loan to a Football League club before the end of August.

So Nottingham Forest have just been given one last chance to sign one of the most gifted footballers to play at Championship level. Whether they need him, however, is another matter entirely.
Forest have reinforced their midfield with three Portuguese starlets, Diogo Goncalves, Gil Dias and the £13 million record signing Joao Carvalho.
So far though, Aitor Karanka’s side have scored just four goals in their first four games of the new season so the maverick Tomlin could still prove to be a much-needed difference maker.
