Championship hopefuls Nottingham Forest have been linked with Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham for ages and could have a great chance now.
Wes Foderingham has allegedly just gone from first to third choice at Rangers.
The former Swindon Town goalkeeper has been the Gers’ undisputed number one over the last two Scottish Premiership seasons but, in perhaps Steven Gerrard’s biggest decision since taking the reins at Ibrox, he has now reportedly been pushed behind Allan McGregor and Jak Alnwick in a shock shake-up.
And he is right to do so. Foderingham is a talented goalkeeper and entering his prime, which means he could do far better than waste a season stuck on the bench or even in the stands.
Fortunately, however, he should not be short of offers. The Scottish Sun stated that both Forest and Sheffield Wednesday were interested when McGregor made his return to Ibrox and both should reignite their interest in light of these recent developments.
Forest recently landed former loan star Costel Pantilimon on a permanent deal but they could do with another new shot-stopper with Stefanos Kapino expected to leave and Jordan Smith out of favour.
Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, are understood to be looking to replace Kieren Westwood and Foderingham would be a younger, more long-term option between the sticks.
From third choice at Rangers, Foderingham could be the number one at one of the Championship’s biggest clubs and this should provide further encouragement for him to seek an exit.
Forest, who have been linked with Foderingham since Mark Warburton’s time at the City Ground, are perhaps the most exciting option with the East Midland giants dominating the transfer market in an attempt to end their 20-year Premier League exile.
