John McGinn was a target for Mark Warburton’s Nottingham Forest in 2017 and he scored twice against them for Championship rivals Aston Villa last night.

Nottingham Forest’s four-game winning run in the Championship came to an end in emphatic fashion on Wednesday night.
They took the lead inside just three minutes against Aston Villa at the City Ground, Joe Lolley producing his fifth assist of the season against his boyhood club to set up Jack Colback’s opener. But Dean Smith’s side came roaring back to win 3-1.
And there was no doubt about the star of the show.
At just £3 million, John McGinn has been one of the best signings of the Championship season and he doubled his tally with a clinical brace in the East Midlands, including one terrific drive from long-range that clipped the post for aesthetic effect.

To make matters worse, McGinn could have been wearing the red of Forest rather than claret and blue.
According to the Mail, Forest made a number of bids to sign the Scotland international in the summer of 2017 with Mark Warburton desperate to bring him to the City Ground. Hibernian were not willing to sell, however, and snubbed their £1.5 million offer.
But, after last night’s glorious display, Forest fans are wishing they had doubled their bid.
