Lee Tomlin was outstanding during a spell in the Championship with Nottingham Forest but has now left Premier League Cardiff for Peterborough United.

There were times in the second half of last season that Lee Tomlin looked like the best player in the Championship.

A mercurial talent with the skill and poise almost unrivalled in the second tier, Tomlin was a revelation during a spell on loan at Nottingham Forest from Cardiff City, establishing himself as a bonafide fans’ favourite for some outstanding individual displays.

So, on this evidence, Peterborough United could have pulled off a quite remarkable transfer coup 12 months on.

According to the Peterborough Telegraph, the gifted forward has agreed a shock return to the London Stadium in a deal that will go through on January 1.

And the fact that some Forest fans would have loved to see the 29-year-old return to the City Ground suggests that he could take League One by storm.

Whether Tomlin would still have had a part to play at Forest is up for debate.

Yes, the former Bristol City and Middlesbrough ace produced some moments of sheer magic under Aitor Karanka between January and May but the former European champions are not short of creative talents these days with Joe Lolley, Matty Cash, Joao Carvalho and co plying their trade at the City Ground.

Forest are yet to see the best of Diogo Goncalves or Gil Dias either.
