Championship side Nottingham Forest paid just £450k to bring Joe Lolley to the City Ground from Huddersfield Town.

Apostalos Vellios put the icing on the cake as Nottingham Forest defeated Barnsley 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Greek striker tapped home from close range to seal a comfortable victory for Aitor Karanka’s side, but about 90 per cent of the credit for the final goal must go to the slaloming, spaghetti-legged Joe Lolley.

Starting well wide on the left touchline, the Forest winger tricked his way inside, leaving four Barnsley defenders for dead before his impudent chip was parried directly into the path of the grateful Vellios.

On the same night that Mo Salah ripped Roma to shreds in the Champions League, Nottingham Forest fans think they have found their own answer to Liverpool’s 43-goal, £37 million Egyptian prince.

Lolley has been a fine addition at the City Ground since Forest signed him from Huddersfield Town in January for a fee of around £450,000, according to Transfermarkt.

The winger has scored three goals and set up two more already and was at his best again as Barnsley were put to the sword in midweek.

Now, obviously there is quite a gulf in class between Lolley, Salah and one Lionel Messi. But the 25-year-old has brought some excitement to the City Ground and, for that, Forest fans love him already.
