Oli McBurnie could leave Swansea City this summer, so should Championship club Nottingham Forest throw their hat into the ring?
Nottingham Forest finally ended a run of five games without a goal in their 2-1 win against Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon.
But that will not paper over any cracks. A new goalscorer is absolutely essential at the City Ground this summer particularly as the club’s top scorer, midfielder Kieran Dowell, is set to return to Everton at the end of this season.
So reports in the Scottish Sun that Oli McBurnie is set to snub a new contract at Swansea City in an attempt to leave the Liberty Stadium this summer should see Nottingham Forest launch themselves whole-heartedly in the Scottish striker’s direction.
McBurnie has hit the net eight times since joining Barnsley on loan from Swansea in January and has turned into one of the Championship’s most prolific poachers. It is his ability to be in the right place at the right time that Forest have lacked in the last few barren weeks.
McBurnie has only one year remaining on his current Swansea contract which should, on paper, make him an even more attractive proposition for Forest – particularly as The Mail claim they are keen on the £5 million-rated Jack Marriott, who has never played above League One level.
But there is no harm in Forest asking the question.
