Ross McCormack was a big fan favourite at Leeds United, but it is fair to say he has not had the same impact at Championship rivals Aston Villa.

Is Ross McCormack the worst signing in Aston Villa’s history? He has surely got to be somewhere near Bosko Balaban and Eric Djemba Djemba at the top of the list.
Villa paid £12 million to sign McCormack from Fulham in 2016. But after just three goals in 24 games, and loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Melbourne Victory, the Telegraph reports that they will let the Scottish striker leave on a free this summer despite having two years left on his contract.

But that nightmare spell in the Midlands does not appear to have put some Leeds fans off the idea of their one-time prolific marksman making a shock return to Elland Road.
And a remarkable spell at Melbourne Victory in the first half of this campaign, in which McCormack hit the net 13 times in 15 games and seemingly hosted his very own Goal of the Season competition, shows he has still got that magic in his boots.

If under-fire owner Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta want to win over the uncertain Leeds support, bringing McCormack back on a free could be an inspired decision.
