Philippe Montanier may have some noteable achievements on his CV but reigniting Nicklas Bendtner would top the lot.

Nottingham Forest transfer gamble Nicklas Bendtner says the presence of coach Philippe Montanier was one of the key reasons why he decided to try and kick-start his ailing career at the City Ground.

The former Arsenal starlet arrived at Forest on a free transfer this summer after having his contract terminated by Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, whose sporting director Klaus Allofs described him as a “menace to the club”, as reported by Goal.

Despite a controversial and ultimately fruitless career, Forest were willing take a punt on the 28-year-old, who will be hoping former Real Sociedad manager Montanier can channel some of the ability that Bendtner once used to back up his bravado.

“I’ve enjoyed playing for Philippe Montanier,” the Danish striker told a news conference ahead of Forest’s EFL Cup clash against former club Arsenal, according to FourFourTwo.

“He’s one of the reasons I wanted to sign here and it’s been very enjoyable so far.”

Bendtner, who’s long list of controversies includes being arrested for vandalising cars while at Sunderland and celebrating by revealing sponsored underwear at Euro 2012, admits that his career has not lived up to his own high expectations.

“I want to look to the future and not the past. I know I haven’t yet fulfilled my potential but now is the time to move forward,” he said.

Montanier helped develop the likes of Antoine Griezmann (below) and Ousmane Dembele into European stars, but he may well have his work cut out with Bendtner.
