Harry McKirdy has failed to make an appearance for Championship outfit Aston Villa, spending the season with League Two Newport County.

Young striker Harry McKirdy has confirmed that he will leave Aston Villa this summer, in quotes reported by the Birmingham Mail.

The highly-rated forward has spent the last eight years at Villa Park, joining the club from Stoke City in 2011. But he has failed to make a single first-team appearance under the likes of Dean Smith, Steve Bruce and Roberto Di Matteo.

Instead, McKirdy has been forced to spend time out on loan at a number of Football League clubs, joining Newport County in January after previous spells at Stevenage and Crewe Alexandra.

He has scored just once in 14 games for Newport, however. And, at the age of 22, it seems that the London-born forward has missed the boat at Aston Villa.

“After an amazing nine years at Villa my time will sadly come to an end this season,” McKirdy said, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

“I had so many unforgettable memories with some top people, staff and players. I wish the club and everyone all the best in the future, hopefully getting back to the Prem which the current squad, staff and fans all massively deserve.

“Onto a new chapter for me in summer and see where it takes me.”

It remains to be seen where McKirdy will end up next, and he will be hoping that a number of impressive performances at Crewe in the 2017/18 campaign stands him in good stead as he looks to get his career up and running outside of Bodymoor Heath.

McKirdy’s comments come just a few days after it was confirmed that young defender Mitch Clark (below) will also be leaving Villa Park.
