Jack Colback is on loan at Championship promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United.

Jack Colback must be thrilled to be playing week in week out in Nottingham Forest colours.

The 29-year-old midfielder fell dramatically out of favour at Newcastle United under Rafa Benitez and spent the first half of last season playing with the reserves. But since moving on loan to Forest, initially In January before returning to the City Ground in the summer, Colback has set about rebuilding his reputation.

Four years after receiving a call-up to the England national team, Colback is now a regular in the Championship and made his 14th start of the season in the goalless draw at home to Stoke City on Saturday.

And, speaking to Forest’s official website, the former Sunderland man has suggested that he would jump at the chance to turn his loan into a permanent deal – particularly if Aitor Karanka’s side are promoted this season.

“It just depends. That is something that can quickly be taken out of your hands,” said Colback when asked about a potential long-term future at Nottingham Forest.

“But my aim is to win promotion and yes, I would love to play here in the Premier League. I would be happy if it did turn out that way; if I did end up playing in the Premier League with Forest.”

Leeds United's Samu Saiz holds off the challenge from Nottingham Forest's Jack Colback at Elland Road on October 27, 2018 in Leeds, England.

Colback adds that his situation at Newcastle looks ‘bleak’ as long as the clearly unimpressed Benitez remains in charge at St James’ Park. So it would perhaps suit all parties if the two clubs came to an agreement over a full-time transfer either in January or at the end of the season.

As it stands, Forest are seventh in the Championship and just six points behind top of the table Norwich City.
