Tottenham Hotspur reportedly wanted to sign goalkeeper Freddie Woodman from Premier League club Newcastle United last summer.

We have heard for years about how Freddie Woodman is the future of Newcastle United.
England’s U20 World Cup winning goalkeeper is so highly-rated at St James’ Park despite the fact that he is yet to make even a single league appearance for the Tyneside club. But, suddenly, his future is in doubt.
The Chronicle reports that Woodman is starting to attract interest with his contract due to expire in 2019. Newcastle have so far been unable to tie the shot-stopper down to a new deal, meaning he could be on his way for a mere compensation fee.
And Tottenham Hotspur, who The Chronicle claimed were interested in 2017, should be at the front of the queue.
After all, the recent absence of Hugo Lloris has exposed Spurs’ lack of quality back-up goalkeepers. Mauricio Pochettino’s side look incredibly nervous whenever Michel Vorm starts between the sticks, particularly in the 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Dutchman never looks convincing whenever he starts and, with his contract up next summer, Spurs will need to sign a replacement soon anyway.
And Pochettino, a man who has kick-started the careers of so many current England internationals, should have his eye on another highly-rated homegrown talent.
