Newcastle’s bid for Alassane Plea is reportedly £12m less than West Ham’s

Newcastle United and West Ham United are just two of the Premier League sides reportedly bidding for Ligue 1 hotshot Alassane Plea of Nice.

It has been well documented that Newcastle United have had a bid for Nice’s coveted striker Alassane Plea rejected. However, it was not known how much the Magpies put on the table.

Until now.

According to the Times, Newcastle bid £15 million for the French striker, whose 21 goals in all competitions last season have made him one of the most in-demand forwards in European football right now.

On the upside, Newcastle are set to return with an improved offer while Plea would be keen on a move to Tyneside and the opportunity to work with Rafa Benitez.

But, with Newcastle’s Premier League rivals seemingly in a position to make a much bigger bid, is Benitez’s long search for a top class centre-forward set to go on.

Sky Sports have claimed that West Ham have bid £27 million for the 25-year-old, who enjoyed the most prolific season of his career in 2017/18.

Newcastle, then, could be forced to double their initial offer to stand any chance of landing Plea with West Ham also expected to raise their bid.

But, with Mike Ashley seemingly unwilling or perhaps unable to invest huge sums on individual players, the chance of Plea rocking up at Newcastle seems unlikely.
