The winger is hoping to return to action for Newcastle United before the end of the season.
Since exploding onto the scene with a superb individual performance in Newcastle United’s shock 2-0 win League Cup win at Manchester City in September 2014, Rolando Aarons has only pulled on the club’s colours on 13 more occasions.
And, according to The Chronicle, the winger almost found his most recent setback too much to bear as he embarks upon the comeback trail yet again.
Aarons started the season strongly, making five appearances early in the campaign but after suffering a knee injury in November has not made a single appearance since in another cruel twist of fate for one of the most exciting youngsters to make their name in the North East in many a year.
However, the 21-year-old says he hopes the dark days are behind him as he aims to force his way into Rafael Benitez’s plans in the final stretch of the season.
“There was a time when I actually broke down in tears because I couldn’t get into a bathtub. I couldn’t bend my knee,” Aarons said in quotes reported by The Chronicle. “The pain was too much. I needed everyone around me to help me through that stage.”
“I would love to get a game or two before the end of the season, to feel the atmosphere again and just play. Even in training sessions now I’m loving it every single day, going out there, thinking it’s the World Cup final.
“It’s nice to be back.”
Time is still very much on the winger’s side and, having demonstrated the odd flash of brilliance in his stop-start career on Tyneside, Newcastle fans will surely welcome Aarons back into the fold with open arms.
