Newcastle United are said to be fighting Premier League rivals Swansea City – as well as Derby County – to sign the Manchester City winger Javairo Dilrosun.
Rafa Benitez might have been frustrated by the lack of permanent additions at Newcastle United during the January transfer window, but two of the players he did bring to the club have made a remarkable impact.
Goalkeeper Marvin Dubravka, signed on loan from Sparta Prague, is a cult hero already and kept a second clean sheet in four games during the 3-0 thrashing of relegation rivals Southampton at St James’ Park.
It was Kenedy, however, who was the star of the show against The Saints. The Chelsea-owned Brazilian has added some much needed quality in attack for The Magpies, and scored his first two goals for the club to set them on their way to a morale-boosting win.
But even if Chelsea do recall a player who looks to have the quality to fit into The Blues’ side, Newcastle fans could be foaming at the mouth over an exciting young winger next season anyway.
The former Ajax prospect is one of Manchester City’s brightest talents, but is said to be keen to leave to boost his hopes of first-team football – and Newcastle would only need to pay a £1 million compensation fee to get him.
Unlike Kenedy, Dilrosun is unproven at the top level – having never made his Premier League debut – but he is a player with huge potential who could replace the Brazilian’s speed and unpredictability in the final third if Chelsea take him back to West London.
