Pardew has already brought fan favourites Andros Townsend, Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy to Selhurst Park.
You don’t need a masters in psychology to realise that most Newcastle United fans don’t have much of a soft spot for Alan Pardew.
So imagine their reaction when The Chronicle claimed that their former boss was aiming to entice one of the club’s current starters from Tyneside.
Like Pardew himself, Paul Dummett has often divided the supporters at St James’, understandable concerns about his natural ability and rather meek attacking intent competing with claims that the Welshman will ‘do a job’ and has ‘done a job’ for some time now.
He may not be the most glamorous member of Rafael Benitez’s squad but, having missed just one of The Magpies 20 Championship fixtures this season, it’s clear that the Spaniard views Dummett as essential to his XI as headline grabbers Jonjo Shelvey and Dwight Gayle.

Furthermore, with understudy left-sider Achraf Lazaar set to depart for the African Cup of Nations in January, Dummett’s place in the side is pretty much nailed down for the time being. Therefore, Pardew’s hopes of adding the academy graduate to his throng of former Newcastle colleagues, including Andros Townsend, Loic Remy and Yohan Cabaye, looks unlikely at best.
And, needless to say, the fans are enjoying the prospect of getting one over their old boss.
