Newcastle United lost at Leicester City with Martin Dubravka again under fire but could Trabzonspor’s goalkeeper replace him in the Premier League?

Trabzonspor are demanding up to £18 million for Ugurcan Cakir with Newcastle United expressing an interest in the Turkish international goalkeeper, according to Fotospor.
A few weeks ago, suggestions that the Magpies need a new number one would have been scoffed at by everyone on Tyneside. Now, however, things might be a little different.
Shortly after gifting Sadio Mane a goal with a howler at Anfield, Martin Dubravka was to blame once again as Newcastle collapsed on their travels. The score was only 1-0 when Jamie Vardy somehow found a way past the Slovakia international from the tightest of angles. It ended 5-0.
This wasn’t a bona fide clanger like that horror-spill at Anfield but a Premier League goalkeeper really shouldn’t have been beaten so easily. So Dubravka must be glancing nervously over his shoulder with Newcastle taking an interest in one of the most promising young shot-stoppers in Europe.

Cakir is coming of age at 23 and, according to Fotospor, the Magpies are one of many clubs who have shown an interest, along with Liverpool, Rennes and Schalke.
Cakir did sign a new contract until 2024 recently but don’t expect the one-time international to stay in Turkey until he’s 28 years old. The report points out that a long-term deal has probably been used to raise his price-tag and protect Trabzonspor’s assets. President Ahmet Agaoglu is now demanding somewhere in the region of £18 million.
So Dubravka has two months to prove that Newcastle do not need to spend.
