Gregoire Defrel looks certain to leave Serie A outfit Roma this summer with Newcastle United the latest Premier League side linked.

The race is well and truly on for Gregoire Defrel.

Corriere dello Sport claimed on Monday that Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham United are all interested in the 27-year-old Roma striker, despite the fact he flopped massively at the Stadio Olimpico after his £20 million arrival last summer.

Defrel managed just seven starts in Serie A and the Champions League combined after reuniting with Eusebio Di Francesco, the manager who got the best out of him at Sassuolo.

And reports from Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Newcastle United are also interested in the versatile Frenchman as Rafa Benitez’s search for a new striker goes on.

Benitez admitted that he would have to sell before he buys this summer and, with the likes of Chancel Mbemba, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Matz Sels and Matt Ritchie still Newcastle players, the Spaniard won’t have a lot of money to play with as it stands.

On the upside, however, Leggo suggests that Roma could let Defrel leave on loan before the transfer window slams shut, which gives Newcastle hope that they can sign the talented attacker without having to spend a penny.

Despite struggling at Roma, Defrel is a gifted, hard-working attacker who would give The Magpies options either through the middle or on the wings.
