West Ham United are reportedly in talks with Roma striker Defrel but Newcastle United want to bring the Frenchman to the Premier League too.
Barely a transfer window goes by without Gregoire Defrel being linked with a move to England. And little has changed with the French striker suddenly facing an uncertain future in Italy.
Defrel spent the first half of the season on loan at Sampdoria from Roma, scoring six goals in 18 Serie A starts. But it seems that he is surplus to requirements now after the Genoa-based club brought former Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini back to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
And, according to Sky Sports, Newcastle United would love to bring Defrel to England with Rafa Benitez interested in the 27-year-old forward.
This is not the first time that The Magpies have been linked, Di Marzio claiming in June that they were keen on a man Roma spent around £18 million on in the summer of 2017.
Defrel has been linked to a number of other Premier League clubs. Tuttomercatoweb claimed recently that Watford and Fulham are in the queue while West Ham United have also held talks with a man capable of replacing Marko Arnautovic at the London Stadium.
It is no secret that Benitez would love to bring a new centre-forward to St James’ Park with Newcastle’s lack of cutting edge leaving them in danger of relegation. And latest reports from Corriere Dello Sport believe that the North East outfit have now offered £13 million.
